Has the U.S become China's bitch? The U.S. showed the world what we are made of. After all the saber rattling about putting limits on Chinese imports. U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow looked China right in the eye ...and blinked.
Snow said the United States was calling on Beijing to take only an intermediate step toward flexibility for its yuan currency. Perhaps Snow suddenly realized that we can't afford to piss China off, since they are a major holder of our debt.
Snow backs down
Can U.S. deficit start global crisis
Pressure on China may backfire
We have become a nation of cows. Leaked memo which could have Bush impeached prior to 2000, is no big deal in fact newly uncovered transgressions by the Bush administrations have become hardly worthy of a "ho hum" It says a lot about our current values and mood in america. we may have become a country of cows who see this damming information as just another fly to be swatted away while we keep our heads down munching the grass.
No one cares any more
U.S. finds another country to antagonize. Not content with just having "Old Europe," Russia, China and the Mideast hating our guts, the U.S. has managed to get Ecuador pissed too.
While Condi was galavanting about Eastern Europe trying to spread democracy like little Condi Appleseed, she managed to fire off a diplomatic salvo towards Ecuador's constitutionally elected President Alfredo Palacio, a pro-American ally, by questioning the "legitimacy" of his right to office.
It seems Ecuador's president wants to give more oil money to poor Ecuadoreans which is in contradiction to paragraph III-1 of the World Bank's 2003 Structural Adjustment Program Loan.
The paragraph says Ecuador can only use 10 percent of new oil revenues for social services. So Palacio's choice is one, piss off the world bank loan agreement or two, watch his people starve. Rice wants the later, its better for American business.
Another enemy for the U.S.?
All the fingers in the administration are pointing at Newsweek. It is a familiar tactic with the Bush boys. Attack the accuser, change the story and disparage the media any chance they can.
How many Iraqi prisoners did the Newsweek reporters tortured ? How many Korans did those newsmen flush down the toilet?
Newsweek didn't make up the story. American soldiers committed those acts and Newsweek reported it. If people are upset with it they should have chosen a different president.
Another scapegoat for the White House.
